HMRC Gives a Little Back

Believe it or not HMRC will now allow anyone who uses duty paid alcohol in their comercial cooking to claim Alcohol Ingredients Relief. This has been available to wholesalers for some time but from this month pubs and restaurants are also eligible. However don’t expect any big payouts. So get the beer battered cod and coq au vin on the menu. Remember you can only claim the alcohol that is an ingredient, a cheeky glass of wine for the chef while cooking doesn’t count.

You can get more details about the scheme here, but you may have to be tax lawyer to understand them.
