Budget Day

Despite calls for an increase in beer duty from some quarters and for a reduction from others the Chancellor has not changed the duty on beer and cider. The duty on Scotch Whisky and other spirits is also staying the same with the duty on other alcohol products increasing in line with inflation. So it will be the wine drinkers who will be hit by this budget.

The change in Business Rates is also good news for the pub industry. It has been suggested that 75% of pubs will benefit from the changes. A pub with a rateable value of less than £12,000 will pay no business rates at all.

The new sugar levy will affect the price of soft drinks but that is two years away.
